If the word "puce" doesn't bring them into the theater in droves, all is lost.

Oh joy! My local PBSKids digital channel is showing "Bone of Arc" this afternoon. It's no Paradise Hotel, of course, but it's a chance to admire the work of Jeanne Simpson when she (and we all) were a lot younger.

It's also another chance to repeat my occasional rant that PBS needs to make the entire Wishbone series available on DVD soon. My great-nephews will age out of the target demographic soon.

Aunt Sam, I'm in. Thanks for the link.

cooper, my friend spaced out on launch day, in this case because of fatigue. He's not a spacer-outer, just working extended hours - and glad to be working, of course. Still, I will have to exact some sort of revenge. That was a beautiful launch.

Fuel problem for tonight's launch, and no word yet on re-schedule. My brother is down, and this was going to be his first chance to see a shuttle light up the night sky on ignition so suddenly and brightly that it is hard to imagine. It is genuinely amazing.

Well, Miss Ormphby, I don't have a camellia, but would you like to see my petunia? How about my latest lottery ticket? How about all these pretty stars circling around my head?

Dee, at least you have Carl Kasell's voice on your answering machine.
How many of us have that?
Sure as Hell ain't me.

I miss Red too.

Every time I see a camellia I think of Red. And I second the recommendation for Bob Edwards' XM radio show. The Sunday edition broadcast on NPR is kind of a "best of" form the previous week. The format on XM is perfect for Bob -- he gets to really take time with his guests.

My local NPR station will continue to get my pledge for WWDTM, Car Talk, Diane Rehm and Talk of the Nation Science Fridays. But the quality of everything else has diminished in the last few years. I think Morning Edition jumped the shark a few years ago when they spent a good ten minutes doing a story on whether four blades in a razor actually made a difference.

Pat! I'm with you. I think Steve, and also Andrea Seabrook, just giggle too much to be taken seriously as journalists.

Bob Edwards has a program on XM Radio that is broadcast by our local NPR station - 2 hours on Sunday afternoon. He still has the voice and still the excellent questions for his guests.

By the way, reading about Red got me reading about Bob Edwards, who I really miss on NPR. I still am upset Steve Upspeak or whatever the hell his name is replaced him. He's rude and arrogant.
