Sarah Palin - the Affirmative Action candidate for VP! She's a Republican Token Woman. Just think for a minute. Consider a candidate with her experience (no international exposure at all), background (including the 5 kids, the Down's syndrome baby and the pregnant teenager), and opinions - who happens to be male. The guy wouldn't even be on the backup list. She's there because she has boobs; which is the most colossal insult to American voting women that I can imagine.

hedera, the magic word is "egghead!" Today I saw a great Adlai Stevenson quote on Huffpo, appropos Rev. Norman Vincent Peals' badgering JFK about his Catholicism: "I find the Gospel of Paul appealing, but the gospel of Peal is appalling." (Though that brilliant guy from Illinois didn't win a presidential election--downer.) The HuffPoster was urging Palin to assure voters, as JFK did in W.VA, that her religious affiliation woul not affect her governance. Fat Chance.
Oh, back to topic. Awwww. Arrrrggh.

Aunt Sam, I'm delighted to hear that you and your friends can't stand her either. Maybe there's hope.

If you mean the NYT article headlined Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes, I'm just reading it on the web. Amazing how close the detail is to Anne Kilkenny's Letters from Wasilla.

I particularly like this quote: "Interviews show that Ms. Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy." No wonder McCain likes her; she's right in Dubya's ballpark.

I was also amused by the aide who phoned a local blogger, informed her that she should be ashamed of herself, and told her to "Stop blogging right now!" Elect this woman and we can kiss the first amendment goodbye. Not to mention that anyone who disagrees with her publicly goes straight onto an enemies list that rivals Dick Nixon's.

If Alaska wants to allow itself to be run by this woman and her high school buddies (see the NYT article in fascinating detail), that's their choice; but as Harold said, we need to act to keep this woman thousands of miles from the White House. At this point the fact that McCain is at the head of the ticket is almost irrelevant.

I'm off the hook as far as non-stop oil drilling permit signatures, for the time being anyway. Cheney went to his "special" internet connection, put "forgery" and "illegal immigrant" into the search engine and found 37 Mexicans in various federal prisons and now he has them faking my signature on all the drill permits for his friends. The work is going much faster now and, I've got to be honest, I can't tell the difference between my signature and their forgeries. I thought I saw a glimmer of a smile on the VP's face, but it was very fleeting, so I won't swear to it.

I'm out here in Denver and it's great to be in the Rockies again. I'm looking into the Oil/Snort/Bimbogate scandal at the MMS office here in town. I've interviewed many of the accused, and I've got to say these are really friendly people with lots of personality. It may take us a few more <strike>kegs</strike> days to get to the bottom of this, but I'm willing to hang in to the end. (Sure, Babs, I'll have another drinkipoo. Thanks for asking. See, I told you - really friendly people.)

I don't know, hedera. I'm a suburban white woman, within a few months of Sarah Palin's age. My girlfriends range from a decade older to a decade younger. A good 90% of us do not care for her. The few who do tend to be one-issue voters. The Dems weren't gonna get them anyway.

The whole-mocking-of-community-organizers thing doesn't play well here. It'll be interesting to see how the article coming out on the front page of the Sunday NY Times affects the game.

Harold, we do have a big Obama sign in our window of the new house, and I know it gets seen, as we are on Hwy.101, and the truckers honk, in what I'm guessing, is approval. We also sport our buttons on our lapels. Not to mention the t-shirts.

Your idea for those of us with blogs is a great one, and we'll update our blog soon, and keep it that way into November. It is too important than to let our country go the same way it has for the past 8 years.

I'm glad Obama is finally taking off the kid gloves and starting to run harder-hitting commercials. What have he and his campaign been waiting for? CAMPAIGN CAMPAIGN CAMPAIGN!!!! Would somebody please ask Hillary's people how it's supposed to be done? Yes, it will be grueling. Yes, it will be exhausting. But if it doesn't happen, we're gonna LOSE this. For the THIRD TIME IN A ROW. History will never forgive us for failing again.

I stopped by the local Obama headquarters to see about getting more yard signs, window signs (they call them "placards", but they work just fine in windows), anything. And they were all out, or so they said. Which worries me. I live in Northeastern Pennsylvania, a battleground region of a battleground state. And I am not seeing Obama signs saturating the area. Why the hell aren't they giving them out like candy?

Actually, they weren't out of placards. They had two dozen of them in a 4x6 array, taped to the wall as a decoration. WTF? Those would be much more effective in the windows of twenty-four houses. But they weren't available.

I put my name down on a list to be notified when more yard signs come in, and a volunteer suggested that maybe he could hook me up with a sign if I were to sign up as a volunteer. I explained to him that I would like to volunteer, but as a blogger who occasionally gets into the down-and-dirty street-fighting of the blogosphere, I wasn't sure if the campaign would want me as a volunteer - or, worse, that they might demand I tune down my posts to a level that falls within guidelines set by the campaign. And I'm not about to do that.

(Anybody here who has a blog: Are you doing your part? The blogosphere is HUGE, and we can influence a lot of people at once. WE NEED TO WIN THIS.)

The volunteer did head to the back room to see what he could do - and on the way, he looked back and said "Are you a Catholic?" I was to tired from a long week to be flustered by the inappropriateness of this question, so contrary to what certain newly-minted Catholics and mafia-hugging parish-closing union-busting bishops might say, I said "Yes."

He replied with something like, "Oh, we've got a good one for you, then." What was it? "Catholics for Obama"? Something playing up Biden's local roots and pro-choice views?

No. It was one of the green-and-white "O'Bama" signs from Saint Patrick's Day. Yes, it was very nice, and shows up in windows better than the drab blue-and-white standard Obama signs. But what the hell did it have to do with being Catholic? Being Irish, maybe. But Catholic? St. Patrick's Day has as much to do with being Catholic as St. Valentine's Day.

So. I'll stop by again soon. I'd like some more stuff, and I'm quite willing to pay for it, now. But at this point I don't think the Obama Campaign can afford to be stingy. Saturate! Encourage people to proudly display their support! And CAMPAIGN CAMPAIGN CAMPAIGN!

Murray, you're right on the money. I never understood why it was such a great thing that Dubya had only been a C student at Yale - don't we want our leaders to be the best and the brightest? Evidently not. With Obama, I'm starting to hear about whispers from people who won't admit it publicly, but privately state that they'd never vote for a black man for president; but the "elitist" line is just the latest version of that marvellous '50s insult: he's an egghead. He's too smart; we can't trust him. I was a kid of obvious intelligence in the '50s and believe me, it was not an advantage. I thought we'd grown out of that, but I guess not.

Now we have Sarah Palin as VP candidate, and from what I read in an account of a McCain rally in Virginia last week, all the suburban women are turning out for her "because she's from a small town, she'll understand us."

The really good article at becca (and brian)'s link to the Gibson interview was one of the side links: take a look at OK, I've had enough of the Palin Gender Politics Game. Now I'm really pissed., by one Kate O'Hara. She lays it all out.

Never has Murray's Mantra been more apparent

Republicans are ruthless,
Democrats are gutless,
Americans are idiots.

Here are the ads that I wish Obama would run.

Announcer: "The McCain Campaign believes that intelligence, proven judgment, and issues are unimportant. They think that Americans want their next leader to be just like them, a person of the people.

We ask you just one question. How many homes do you own?

If you can even answer this question you are not like McCain.

What is your definition of elite?" (Fade to black)

My other would be:

(Print on screen)

McCain says Obama wants to teach kindergartners sex-ed-----Lie!
Palin says that she said "Thanks but No thanks" to the bridge--Lie!
McCain says that Obama will raise your taxes------------------Lie!
Palin says that she rejected earmarks-------------------------Lie!

(This would go on and on with all of the proven lies that the McCain campaign has made).

Announcer: "If they lie to you during the campaign, do you think they will tell the truth once they are in the White House?"
