Obama is winning the electoral race, and the Republicans know it, including John McCain. Palin was a desperate gamble by a desperate campaign. Hell, they didn't even vet her. This was not a well thought out, clever move. It was a crapshoot to get the fundie base fired up, which is Karl Rove's primary strategy.

Do new registrants or people with cell phones only get polled?

Dee, I've been watching on the official site demconvention.com and it's also blissfully talking head free. Surprisingly user-friendly, and rather nice.

I sincerely hope that Mo dances better than our president. (Jesus, talk about a "lame duck".) Otherwise, I'll have to stick with the Comedy Channel coverage. Dee, I want interruptions. I demand them, in fact.

I'm housesitting this week (for someone who's a delegate to the convention -- I hope she brings back lots of swag) so I've been able to watch the convention on C-SPAN and I highly recommend it. No talking heads, no commercials, uninterrupted speeches and a shot of Mo Rocca dancing. Best coverage EVAH!

I am thinking that maybe the Democratic convention is going on this week. Well, Jimmy, it could be worse. You could be hog tied and duct taped to a chair in front of a TV for the duration, instead of constantly driving from one end of this steaming, sauna-like state to the other. Top that off with no cell service in most places and these goddamned mosquitoes!!!! How gillian survived in this raging inferno while growing up - and still refers to it as "home" - is beyond me. I hope I find her soon or I may have to get a room in a motel and watch the convention just to drag me back into a semblance of reality.

I wonder what color pant suit Hillary will be wearing for her speech....

Excellent speech and exactly what I had been wanting to hear from her since the end of the primaries. "If you really support me and what I stand for, then there is no way you can let McCain be president and you should support the man who will be fighting for the same things."

Kudos to her on a passionate, excellent speech. She did her legacy proud tonight

What am I missing? How come 44-46 Obama-McCain means "game over" but 47-42 two weeks ago didn't mean McCain should have just quit then? Although I wish he would have....

And I liked Hillary's speech, especially the bit where she picked up all the threads of the folks she met who needed help, and asked her supporters if they had fought for her, or for them.

Harold writes: This week’s WWDTM was a little time capsule from those long-ago days of July 2007. It took me a few beats to get the joke about “commuting” during the Patrick Fitzgerald segment.

Actually Harold, I'm guessing you didn't get the GGM (Global Mind Memo.) Some of us are not yet tuned. That Wait Wait is actually current. Most of the world has gone back 13 months for an enormous do-over. McCain was not supposed to get out of that lagoon.

Mayeth God be praised! I hath arrived safely from my ocean voyage to Charleston, SC and I must admit that, yea, though I hath planted my feet upon God's solid earth again, I hasten to say that never hath I experienced such unrelenting, blood-sucking insects! Fie! A plague upon each bed bug, lice, and mosquito that I now carryeth upon mine body! My old school chum, Ethan, didst warn me of this pestilence here in the south, but he spoketh not to the smell of this town. I pray his carriage doth arrive soon to carry me from this misery and to his most welcoming plantation. Oh well, being burned at the stake in Salem, Mass. wouldst be even more of a discomfort..... mayhaps. I shall stay here until Pops giveth me the "all clear" that the witch madness in Boston hath passed and it is safe to return.

Steve, thanks for the heads-up. Give us another one when Gallup becomes a reliable polling company again.
