I hope some of you enjoyed my guest-hostification over the past two weeks. I can say without fear of contradiction that Peter Sagal’s job is much harder than that of us panelists, who only have to write a bluff story and prediction, read some news, and then show up and behave badly. Being a grown up is more difficult…
I’ll start updating this blog regularly again later this week, but for now I’m going to spend a little extra time with a good friend who seems happy to see me.

1I thought you were more fun as a guest host than some of those they’ve used in the past.

2I thought you did an excellent job of making hosting sound not easy.
You did fine work behind the podium. Well done, sir! What impressed me was being to token adult is one thing, and cutting up on air is another, but doing both at the same time must have been especially tricky. I kept waiting for you to get on a riff and be forced to urge you to keep the show moving along. It must have been edited out.

5Oh how I needed that darling boy today.
I’m president of our UU congregation and as you can probably guess, it has not been an easy 36 hours. Our minister is on a well-deserved vacation so between planning a vigil service and talking with the teevee news folks, I’m exhausted. And as details emerge about the shooter’s motivation, I’m more and more sick at heart.
But there is that beautiful smiling face, and all is right with the world. Hug that baby for me, Adam.

6Dee: But, according to the dunderheads over at FARK, if only the congregation was armed and had returned fire. . .
I loathe my species sometimes.

7Oh Dee, how awful. I’ll bet your congregation is glad they’ve got you to lean on. We’ll try to prop you up a little from here.

9Hang in there, Dee.
And that boy is obviously proud of his Dad for the fine guest-hosting he has done over the past couple of weeks.

10Adam, in this pic Bas really resembles you! Well–smaller, gummier.
Dee, I’m so not surprised that one of our dear FanAppers is an active UU. All UU’s have my deepest respect and sympathy.

Dee - Our deepest sympathy and compassion. You know this is one (other) place you can come for support.

13Dee~ I’m so sorry for your pain. My heart & prayers go out to your church family. Brings to mind also that WW2 era poem:
In Germany, the Nazis first came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t Jewish.
Then they came for the trade unionist,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant,
Then they came for the homosexuals,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a homosexual,
Then they came for me,
and by that time there was no one left to speak for me.
–Rev. Martin Niemoeller, German Lutheran Pastor
I know it may be scant comfort to grieving friends & family, but I think the UU church can be proud of its long history of speaking for those that are otherwise marginalized.

15Hey, Big Guy. That’s quite the strapping young lad you have there. Happy and well adjusted and ready for those teeth to come in any day now. Being a newbie parent and all, you may not have thought of the vital importance of dental health to infants and toddlers alike. Well, take it from an old dad, you can’t be too careful about what the little buggers put into their mouths when they start cutting teeth. Teething rings from China with lead, PCB’s, and countless inscrutable cooties? Yikes!! Melba toast handmade by terrorist in Gaza for the US marketplace? Don’t even think about about it!!!
What you need is an all American product that you and the little woman will never have to worry about. Heh, heh! Well, put your mind as ease. I have the perfect item, completely safe (if not swallowed) and highly recommended by my very own doctor on contract. I certainly trust him (when he’s sober) and you should, too. But enough with the testimonials. You probably are busting to find out what I’ve got for you. Okay, since you asked, it’s my
surplusfamous Yeti spaghetti. And YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE TO COOK IT!!! That’s right - you don’t cook it, you gum it. Well, not you; the little ankle biter gums it and gums it and this encourages his teeth to come in up to 2 months faster (if genetically predisposed). Just think of the table legs you’ll save! And imagine your mom’s delight when you send your next batch of photos and the blighter has a face full of choppers. She’ll be so proud of you!Okay!!!……. will that be - one boxcar load or two?

16UUers - the noblest of the noble in the world of Christendom, a too frequently ignoble place.
Bas - the noblest achievement to date of Mother Felber’s little boy Adam and his lovely better half (one of the traditional descriptors that is well founded).

17dee - I was visiting my sister and bereft of my usual news sources - I saw the incident only sideways in the Las Vegas Review-Journal (which was preoccupied with a local scandal) - it was still enough to make me sick. My thoughts are with you and all UUs - I’m not a UU but if I ever go back to a church it’ll probably be them. Aunt Sam, you nailed it.
The trouble is, I’m not really surprised - appalled, but not surprised - since SCOTUS decided that every idiot has the right to bear arms, the idiots are all encouraged to use them. I will be watching the trial with great interest.
He’s a beautiful baby, Adam.

18Dee, so sorry. Can’t find many more words, certainly none that rise above what’s already been said here.
Wishing you strength and love (I suspect there’s already a lot of that in your congregation).

21Mr Mutant and I went to a memorial service- candlelight circle at our neighborhood UU last night. (Not members, just wanted to show neighborly solidarity.) It rained on our way there. Drizzled through the Service, was just a light sprinke by the time to go out front and light candles. During the candle circle singing and meditation, we got sprinkled on, but a little sun broke through. Just as we ended the circle to go home, we got a rainbow! Quite an endorsement.
