We have a Sikh center between Goldenrod (the cultural hub of the Occident) and Oviedo. We also have an Islamic center with a school on Goldenrod Road near Highway 50. A different place than when you lived in Winter Park near 17-92, cooper, and an unimaginably different place than when I was a child growing up 'mongst the orange trees (and the good folk who migrated from Ohio).

We also have the biggest, most obnoxious billboard I have ever seen. The sonofabitch (and its co-monstrosities) destroys any possibility of feng sui along 426. They're a bunch of bastards all, goddamn their eyes (they being CBS, Clear Channel, and whoever else owns those goddamned affronts to civilization).

hedera,

My Sweetie has been fighting her way through the other Cough from Hell (just wanted you to know you had company, and a boat load of sympathy).

Cardinal Bernie tells me that I'm getting spell-checked by some former librarian from California. Of course, she's right - the religion is spelled Sikh, not Sihk. Father Anselmo says that when a word is underlined by a dotted red line, I may want to consult a dictionary or perhaps even a Higher Power. I stand corrected.

Can't leave these people alone for a minute. I take a few days off to deal with The Cough From Hell, and I come back to find Pope Benny talking about a conference with "Sihks". Will someone please explain to this man that the correct spelling is "Sikh"?? He spelled the dagger right though.

I really like the Dave Brooks quote on the election.

Sid Vicious. Heh, heh, heh.

As I recall, SV used to wear a pin on his jacket that said, "I'm a Mess."

Kinda appropriate, no?

At the moment Viggo is hardly the vision of a movie idol. He lost a lot of weight for the part and with long stringy, matted hair, beard and dirty old torn clothing he truly does look like a homeless person. Nor does pushing a shopping cart down the road add to the glamor.
The cinematographer is Spanish and when Viggo talks to him he does so in fluent Spanish. He is also teaching Cory (the boy) how to speak Spanish between takes. They talk and joke between them selves quite a bit and Cory will talk to the crew but Viggo stays to himself other than that.
Garrett Dillenhall was the actor who played the road rat and gets blown away by the man. He was also the doctor on "John from Cincinnati" When he finished his part the crew gave him an ovation. He ends up taking a bullet and they had an aerosol device spray "blood" out of the back of his head when he gets shot. They only did two takes of this because it took so long to clean up between shots. Tuesday it was pouring rain and they shot half of the scene, yesterday it was cloudy but dry so they brought in a fire truck to hose down the trees and scenery. The makeup people kept spraying the caps and faces of the actors to keep everything wet. With the temperature in the 30s it wouldn't have been comfortable.
I'm told that the first choice for the man was Johnny Dep. I think Viggo makes a better "man". Not that Dep isn't a great actor, but I'd be seeing Capt. Sparrow or Edward Sissorhands. I'm also told that one other part later on in the film will be De Nero. I believe that he is the guy that the "man" forces to take off his clothing and leaves him to freeze to death. It is a conflicting point in the story. The man has always been good but in this case he is crossing the line and the son challenges him, a pivotal point in the story.
They wrap up filming here today and will spend several days cleaning up the set. Sunday or Monday we will do a walk through to go over everything. They have done a good job keeping everything clean. Despite the fact that many of the crew smoke, I don't see any butts around.
There are wrecked cars strewn around and in a way I wish they could stay. It adds additional atmosphere to an already unreal place. We can't if for no other reason than liability. Besides with in a month or two everyone would get torched.

At least today's Washington Post/ABC poll indicates that McCain loses to either Hillary (44-50) or Barack (43-55), which suggests that Hillary can win, but by enough to prevent another electoral theft? whereas it looks like Obama has a crack at a theft-proof margin of victory. Still seems to me the best solution is an Obama/Clinton ticket. Anyone in either camp who hates the other candidate has to be jettisoned when the nominee is finally determined.

Oh yeah, screw the media's story line of the day. Those people are too damned lazy to do anything besides plagiarize each other (this all too often includes NPR, at least their headline news on the hour waste of air time), as Jon Stewart so effectively demonstrates with those clips of every talking head saying the same thing.

Did anyone else catch Chris Matthews' admission that the media are McCain's base?

sharon, love the tidbit about the Bostonian wanting Howard Zinn's autograph. I'm betting Viggo also loved it.

Viggo wrote, and read at an anti-war rally in DC, a hell of a poem in opposition to the criminal invasion of Iraq. Does anyone happen to know how to get a copy of it?

Just remember: John McCain's middle name (which appears exactly nowhere on his campaign website or his official Senate website) is ... Sidney.

Yup.

J. Sidney McCain. That is, J. Sidney McCain III to you and me.

Not that there's anything wrong with that ...

Ann writes: And I hope it goes without saying that I don’t use “BHO” because of his middle name!

Well I'm guessing you do, but not because of the middle name factor. I'm guessing you do it to be polite because the initials BO have additional connotations.
