So, many of you have been unable to post, getting error messages that say you’ve been engaged in “illegal or malicious activities.”
I’ve been getting that too. And while I believe it’s probably TRUE of most of you, I don’t think you deserve to have your noses rubbed in it.
I’m trying to fix things. The FanAp elves seem to be missing, so I’m sort of on my own here. But I’ll try… Stay tuned. I’m loathe to completely deactivate the anti-spamware responsible, as it’s protected the site from over 11,000 attempts over the past 7 days alone.
Yipes, huh?
—
UPDATE: I’ve attempted a fix all by myself. Let’s see if it works, continues to shut y’all out, or opens the door for oceans of spam. Triple yipes!

1This here is an attempt to comment. In no way should it be construed as inciting an overthrow of the government, or as advertisement.

4I hardly think three reasonably worded comments constitute an ocean of spam.
I wasn’t involved in any illegal operations either. Illicit operations on the other hand…….

5Adam, glad to be back in commission. I mean, I’ve done all sorts of “illegal and malicious” things in my day, but not here, fer chrissakes.
Anywho, by now I’m sure you’re aware that yesterday was, um, “Ninja Day,” or something … and it also marked one month to the day since the start of the Writers Guild Strike. So, on “All Things Considered” they had on a Ninja – I kid you not – from a website called “Ask a Ninja” who provided some helpful advice to the writers.
Good stuff.
And couldn’t we all use a li’l ninja now and then? Know what I’m sayin’?

6Acts that might have been construed under certain circumstances as illegal were certainly not malicious, and conversely, any possibly malicious acts were not illegal. And I resent the implication.

11Keith Olbermann let loose again on Countdown tonight. The whole NIE flap about what Bush knew and when he knew it, shortly bite him savagely on the ass. This “Special Commentary” should be up on Crooks and Liars or the Countdown web site soon. Enjoy.
After Countdown ended, Dan Abrams started in on the same subject with a panel of Joan Walsh, Pat Buchanan and Tony Blankley. I tell you, when you have the likes of Pat and Tony, two raw meat Republicans, accusing Bush of trying to lie us into another war, you’ve pretty much hit the bottom.

12So, here’s my question. If you post a link to the Monty Python skit with “The Spam Song,” will your anti-spamwear think it’s spam and block it?
I mean, I got questions …

13Olbermann’s latest video is up on C&L.
Meanwhile, in other news, “Dick” Cheney warns that a “premature withdrawal” from Iraq would invite further attacks against the United States and berates the men of the Democratic Congress for not carrying “bigger sticks” in their dealings with Madame Speaker.

And I really really loathe (with an ‘e’) that place.

18egad. I’m glad to see that we’re up and running again. And also that nothing will deter y’all from correcting my spelling & usage.
all in all, the fix was no fun- nobody should ever have to give oneself a crash course in webometrical sciences. Particularly not on one’s spouse’s birthday. But it does seem to have worked, and left us plenty of time for dinner, cake, & etc.
still, I’m terrified of what may soon flood this site - I can’t completely believe that I’ve done this right…

19Becca, one can only hope! I have written my congressman, one of my senators (the one who didn’t vote for Mukasey), Pelosi, Conyers, and Leahy, *yet again*. They lied us into a war against Iraq, they tried to lie us into a war against Iran, they’ve pi$$ed away our future. When is it going to be ENOUGH?

20Happy Belated Birthday, Jeanne, and thank you for sharing your Webometrically Adept Spouse with us. Fortunately, you’re still at an age that even if all the candles were to melt while you waited for said Spouse to fix things, it wouldn’t be a disaster.
Unlike some of us around here.

21Adam: Loath, loathe. Relax, writers aren’t supposed to be able to spell. At least, that’s what my writer friends keep telling me. (And do you read Ken Levine’s blog? Wow.)

27There are a lot of people who frequent this little place on the internets who are in varying states of vocational flux. Adam’s on strike, Ann broke it off with Bill and is blissfully (I hope) branching out on her own, Harold is enduring a killer schedule at the same place that let him go a few months back.
And then there are SeattleDan and SeattleTammy.
If you didn’t know, these two are the owners of Jackson Street Books “Owners” isn’t quite the word I want. They are passionate about good literature, committed to being a part of the revival of one of Seattle’s “marginal” neighborhoods and damn fine people. But it’s not easy being an independent bookseller these days, and they are feeling the pressure. Decisions will be made after the first of the year.
Losing this little jewel would be a shame. So those of you who love books, respect people who are trying to make a difference or just have some extra money lying around that you don’t know what to do with — you might want to consider placing an order with Dan and Tammy. It’s easy as pie. You can do it via their blog — just provide them with the title you need (an ISBN number would be nice, too — I get mine from amazon.com tee hee) and your credit card number. They get you your books in no time and it always warms my heart when I get that package in the mail because I know the books were boxed up with love.
And don’t you all need ANOTHER copy of Schrodinger’s Ball or The Book of Vice?

29You know, Heather’s been carping about my tuna hot dish lately, maybe I’ll see if SeattleDan has “Cookwise” by Shirley Corriher. That’d make a great Xmas gift to myself. Heather might even throw in a few dollars to cover shipping. Yep, she’s nodding her head from across the room right now. OK Dan, Ill be in touch. “Hi” to Tammy.

31Yesterday, December 8, the Holy See celebrated the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Ich gave a blessing from my window at die Vatican zu die crowd of die faithful und, of course, die Amerikaner und Englisch touristen (these touristen are like cockroaches, they are everywhere!) My blessing centered on the hijacking of Christmas by wanton commercialism. “I think about today’s young people, raised in an environment saturated with messages proposing false models of happiness…and drawing them into the dead-end streets of consumerism.” Yada, yada, yada. So, there was a roar from a crowd of die Amerikaner. (Cardinal Bernie has being coaching me to appeal to the youth by not wearing my glasses when I give the blessing, so I couldn’t make out exactly what was going on.) I thought I would have to stop my blessing (again!) while they chanted “USA! USA! USA!” (Why do they insist on das dummkopf stupidity?) To my surprise, they began cheering und raised up banners that said (according to Bernie) “Rev. Billy of the Church of Stop Shopping hearts Pope Benny!”. I have no idea what das was about; Bernie said it was “bonus!”, whatever das means.
Oh, und Bernie says “Honk!”, whatever das means.
