We deliberately plant stuff for them to eat; unfortunately our fuchsia has succumbed to those stupid mites and my resident gardener doesn't think he can find a replacement, which is mite resistant, which is also red and white (the color scheme for that spot). We still have the lion's tail, though, and several other things they like (but <i>why</i> do they hang out at the Cana lily?? Siobhan?). We're thinking of replacing the fuchia with a bird feeder (including a hummingbird station, of course) if we can figure out a way to keep the squirrels out of it... We've had resident hummingbirds for some time, plus the usual California towhees; and sometimes we can look up and see a red-tail circling. Our latest visitor is a junco, who looks like he either has moved in or is moving in; he keeps perching on the power wire to the garage. He has to trade it off with the male hummer. I assume it's the male but who can tell? I don't mention pigeons... David,
