I'll confess that SeattleTammy and I voted for Nader in 2000. But we did so knowing Gore would win Washington State (which he did handily). We would have voted for Gore, otherwise. We were hoping the Greens would get 5% nationally, and then qualify for national matching funds for elections, which didn't happen. In 2004 there wasn't a chance in Hell that we were not going to vote Democrat. (Well, I did think about voting the Felber/Sagal ticket-forgive me!). I do wish we could afford the luxury of different voices in the nation, but, alas, at this time, we cannot. IMHO.

I'm thinking Liebermann for Snowe. I can't think of another D I want to trade for an R, although I'd like to see Specter and Chaffee do a Jeffords.

Yes, Sharon, voting Green Party is quixotic in presidential and senate races, along with governorships, but other races no, except in those cases where voting G clearly simply guarantees an R victory. For all your justifiable anger, Ds and Rs are not even close to similar. George Wallace was wrong when he said there's not a dime's worth of difference. I am, by the way, a Green at heart, and would love to see the day when the Greens could register as many voters as the Democrats and the Republicans. Meanwhile, necessity, the biggest mother of all....

I will not be voting in the Lamont v. Lieberman primary this year. A few months ago I chewed out the last of the DNC telemarketers who called me looking for money, and the next day I went to city hall and changed my registration to the Green Party. Yes, I know it's a futile, quixotic gesture, but I am so tired and fed up with spending a lifetime watching the lifeblood getting drained out of the political and public life of this country--no thanks to both the Dems and the Repugs--that I felt that a futile, quixotic gesture was in order.

piglet, I had a girlfriend from New Haven during my college days (Yea, Goddard Gods!) and after we broke up I referred to it as the Nutcase State. But I've matured (incrementally) since then, plus I know Sharon will give me a vicious dope-slap at Felberpaloosa if I don't recant, so it is most reverentially the Nutmeg State from here on.

NC is either The Tarheel State or The Old North State. I wonder what geographically challenged dough-brain came up with that last one.

Sorry, Chris, I don't have much to say about Mr. Lieberman. He pegged my snoozemeter a long time ago. Who exactly decided he was a good match for Gore, anyway?

As a Washington Stater, I'm not up on eastern state nicknames, so I am delighted to hear that Connecticut is the Nutmeg State. It sounds like it was named after somebody's dachshund.
