Mary,

Much as I hate it, there is a better than even chance you are right, especially since nature functions solely in the "reality-based world."
And if Iraq is, in the words of our Delusionist-in-Chief W (now a recognized word in the Swedish language), a success story, actual success with any positive implications is now a profoundly endangered concept.

It's time to go back to my theme song - "I don't worry about a thing because nothing is going to be alright."

This cabal just keeps getting scarier.

Lengthy, but only as long as it needs to be, and a hell of a lead. Mary Matalin is the most perplexing member of the Dick's Mafia. Thanks for the link, Cooper.

A rather lengthy article in the American Prospect about the "secret" staff of Dick Cheney - who is on the front lines clogging the pipes and placing the kerosene lamp within easy kicking distance of Mrs. O'Grady's cow... ie., the troublemakers that you've never heard of. They have a way of showing up again later in life.

Thanks for the link, David. Great story. The "I forgot" defense reminds me of a routine that Steve Matrin used to do.

Link to an interesting article regarding Fitzgerald/Karl Rove (got the link from the Washington Note - Steve Clemons seems to think this one is worth paying attention to):

"...why is that a White House job - vs an RNC job?"

siobhan, you're an astute young woman, surely you've noticed that the Bushies just like to rub our noses in it. It's the Rovian way.

If Karl Rove's job is to focus on the fall elections (for the republicans), why is that a White House job - vs an RNC job? Why am I paying for this? I mean, I pretty much assume that it's been that way all along, but at least they bothered to put some lipstick on the pig up 'til now.

I think Scotty has a promising future in customer service.

CUSTOMER: My new PC caught fire and burned down the house. Can I get a new PC? And maybe a few bucks for the house?

SCOTTY: Well, sir, it sounds to me like you're trying to play the blame game.

CUSTOMER: No. There's no doubt about the blame, really.

SCOTTY: I'm not going to get involved in fingerpointing, sir.

CUSTOMER: If one of your products burst into flames, well, I think you'd want to look into that.

SCOTTY: I'll fill out one of our "find out why the PC caught fire" requests, and our people will look into it. [Sound of scribbling, followed by sound of form going into wastebasket.] OK, sir, I've started the process.

CUSTOMER: So, how long will it take?

SCOTTY: I'm sorry, sir, but I cannot comment on anything pertaining to an ongoing investigation.
