Apparently This Americam Life chose to re-air the “Sanctity of Marriage” episode this weekend, and I’ve received quite a few requests for the full text. Well, click right here.
[Note that the above link itself links to the two pieces that the piece was constructed from, which contain a bit more material. Think of ‘em as “bonus tracks.”]
At some point I might update you all on the state of my marriage in this new era. For now I’ll merely let you know that Jeanne and I are still married. We’ve moved to Los Angeles, which is about as far from Massachusetts as you can get in the continental United States. But even here we can feel the sacredness of the institution eroding, and with that our love, mutual respect, and commitment dwindles by the day, thanks to those gays (whom we still adore, of course, but…) and those activist judges (since when do judges decide what laws and the Constitution mean?).
Anyway, enjoy the piece, and thanks again for your supportive emails.

1Aren’t we all especially concerned about the gay penguins featured on Anderson Cooper 360?
So not only will penguins demand to marry, they’ll be demanding GAY marriage.
Captain Frank’s seafood shop in New Bedford won’t be good enough for them. They’ll want lobster bibs from Anthony’s Pier Four.

2Sigh. I missed this the first time around. As usual, Adam, you’ve said it all.

3My best to you and the Faire Jeanne, Adam!
I won’t bid you congratulations or condolences at such an early time for WWDTM this week.
But you (and perhaps a few others) do know what I mean.
Is that OK Mike Z.?

4It’s such a shame that the 300+ comments were lost to spam. There was a lot of good back and forth.

5I can’t remember a damn thing from that conversation. Now that I think of it, I never remember anything from just about any convesation on this blog. Does anyone remember the gist of it?

6Yes. We were profound, humorous, insightful, compelling and whimsical.
Just like always.

10Hey Adam, did you ever notice that part of the music cut into the background is Lex Luthor’s theme from the Christopher Reeve Superman movies? I recognized the tune immediately, but it took me a few minutes to figure out what it was…

11I absolutely loved this essay, Adam’s reading, and the editing. I made an iTunes/aac clip of this and added it to my iPod. If anybody else would like to hear it, I’ve put a copy here.
I’m only going to leave it there for a little while but I wanted to share with those of you who didn’t get to hear it. There’s both audio and metadata credit going to both Adam and TAL, but if there’s a problem I’ll remove it immediately.

12Apparently Moveable Type doesn’t agree with the way I tried to provide a link. Try this one.

13OMG. this week’s WWDTM was a scream!! I listened to it Saturday morning on my computer, and then again Sunday afternoon while driving. I listened to it again last night trying to catch the number of Monty Python refferences/asides/quips that you managed to slip into the show. I lost it at the first ‘yeeaa’. The only thing that would have been better would have been to hear the whole, unedited tape.
I think that for the next Pledge Drive, WWDTM should put together a 2 hour show of bleeps, quips, blunders, improv etc…. All of the REALLY good stuff that ends up on the cutting room floor. Or make a BEST OF WWDTM CD, with a complimentary “Things you didn’t hear, but should have” CD. I’d pledge good money for that!!!!

From your keyboard to the Lobster’s ear (or at least the gods of pledge-drive packaging)!

15Dang. I caught the last 10 seconds of the Marriage piece on TAL’s airing on KCRW this last Friday. I remember thinking in rapid succession (well, rapid for me, anyhow) “Hey, that sounds familiar. Hey, someone’s ripped off Adam Felber! Hey, that is Adam Felber.”
We’re looking forward to the WWDTM live show in San Diego on May 5 — please tell me that Adam will be there (and not PJ O’Rourke).

17Thank you Landis! It’s like hearing “The Wind In The Willows” by Alan Alda! Wonderful! I just wanna know how Adam could speak AND play the oboe without mumbling/drooling?
Good spotting Auros! Wow. My head’s full of that kind of useful factoids, but I can’t remember the YEAR I was married to She Who Makes The Earth Tremble. I got the date down pat, but the year stymies me. 19xx or something. I can’t remember Her Indoors’ birthday either. Do both of these lapses disqualify me from the Sacred Union? Not on your Nelly! I’m fully licensed! Go Adam! Stick it to the “Marry Anything That’s Not Nailed Down” crowd. pant, pant, pant, where’s my medication…
