Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Yes, it’s that holiday, the one that liberal revisionists are trying to destroy by pointing out that the the first Thanksgiving didn’t actually lead to a long, rich history of peaceful cooperation between the Native Americans and the European settlers they aided.
Liberals. Even back in the late 17th century there were proto-pinkos claiming that the Native Americans didn’t really have black magic of mass destruction and that Operation Prairie Thunder was therefore unjustified. They claimed that the colonists had merely seen something they wanted and exercised their superior military technology to go and get it while justifying themselves with a gloss made of piety and self-righteousness. These blame-America-firsters are always denying the essential truth that the Indians were the terrorist aggressors, and that they hated us for our freedom, and that they eventually more or less vanished on their own or moved west to establish our young nation’s first casinos.
Seriously, there was a good bit in there, before the systematic colonization of the mid-17th century and the subsequent Indian backlashes. Before that, there were a lot of very big, very friendly dinners. I know, I know - it happened in Massachusetts, which isn’t really part of the United States anymore. But it was a good thing, if only for a little while. And if it had lasted, there’d be nothing all that extraordinary to celebrate - it’d be the norm. And no-one can eat turkey every night.
Again, a very happy Thanksgiving to all of y’all. I’m thankful for a lot of things, and you guys are near the top of my list. Thanks for making a not-for-profit, technologically frustrating, self-published and self-indulgent website completely worth my while. May your pies bake evenly and your turkeys remain moist, and may you enjoy every moment of stomach pain and traditional family squabbles. Here in LA, we’ll be staying in phone contact with our far-removed families, but we’ll be right here, cooking our first turkey. I’m a secular man, but pray for us on that one, will you?
[Hopefully I’ll get the comments working again soon so that everyone can exchange holiday greetings. Or holiday rants and accusations. Either way, I’ll try.]
