You’ve heard about Jon Stewart on Crossfire, you’ve read the excerpts and maybe even the whole transcript, but you need to see the actual video. And keep this in mind: he was given a half hour on national, live TV to plug his book. He knew what he had to do: to be amusing, to be warm, and witty, and pleasant. All of which he has done and could do again easily, but he preferred not to. As someone who is often called upon to do the same sort of monkey dance — not on national TV, not with nearly so many people paying attention, but still — I stand slack jawed. Ah, Jon Stewart! Ah, the humanity!
