Those pesky State of the Union addresses! Just when we’d put that whole “yellowcake” thing was behind us, we revisit this year’s speech:
But now it seems that even those WMD related program activities were… not very active. Not so much. Not at all, really, if you need to know the actual “truth.” Okay. They were what we in military intelligence like to call “inactive activities.”
But the message remains - the guy was a danger, we were right to go in, etc. See, Saddam had the intention of getting those WMD-related program activities back on line as soon as he got the chance.
So all we need to do is fix up the phrase. Saddam didn’t have weapons of mass destruction, no. And he didn’t have weapons of mass destruction-related program activities. But what he had, what he definitely possessed, we now know, is the incredibly scary….
Weapons of mass destruction-related program activity intentions!
That sounds like a winner. Look for it in tonight’s debate.
Because, ladies and gentlemen, if we had just sat around and waited while Saddam Hussein found his way out of the UN sanctions, poured massive amounts of money into secretly reconstituting his WMD program activities, turned those activities into actual programs and those programs into actual weapons, got over his long-standing feud with Islamist terrorists who sympathized with his sworn enemies in Iran, and then gave away those newly-acquired WMD’s to his newly-acquired al Qaeda friends, the where would we be? Where would we be?
