It’s not the scathing report about British pre-war intelligence that gets me. It’s that idiotic Tony Blair and the dangerous precedent that he set with his thoughtless reaction.
“No one lied, no one made up the intelligence. I accept full personal responsibility … for any errors that were made.”
WHAT!? Doesn’t this jerk realize that taking responsibility for the mistakes of his underlings is verboten? The correct method, the one that our President uses so effortlessly, is to say that mistakes might have been made, that the mistake-makers will be found, and then…
…wait. Eventually, the story goes away. That’s how it works. With Blair taking the blame like this, there’s a chance that Americans might start to think that when something goes wrong there’s a specific person with an actual name who’s responsible. And then they’ll want to know about Valerie Plame, failed intelligence, yellowcake gaffes, incomplete war plans, shortsighted tax cuts resulting in massive deficits, and a whole host of other perpetrator-less crimes.
Not here. Not in my America. Tony Blair - shame on… shame on… well, not you, exactly, but some unnamed person or persons who are responsible for you taking responsibility. We’ll find ‘em. We promise.
