Re: I Find Your Lack of Faith Disturbing
There have been murmurings and mutterings lately, murmurings and mutterings in the ranks. I am displeased. I remind you all that I am under no obligation to explain my methods. But still, if these qualms can be quashed by some small reassurance, I will deign to make my purposes known.
Yes, I had instructed some of you to to clamor for the release of John Kerry’s military records, and I was obeyed. I am pleased.
But the murmurings soon began. Do not believe for a moment that they did not reach me. “Why are we doing this?” “John Kerry’s record has been investigated and found to be unassailable.” “Why would we highlight the contrast between a thrice-wounded veteran and our guy?” “Of course he’ll release all his records, these are to his advantage.”
Fools. You look but you do not see. I am disappointed.
Know, then, as I have revealed before, that the American people look even less deeply than you, and that our Work has already been accomplished. Behold:
As always, when we question en masse, the press has no choice but to report that we have questioned. There have now been headlines that proclaim that “people” have “questioned” John Kerry’s military record. There is “some skepticism” about the seriousness of his wounds. The very fact that he did NOT initially post and publicize his actual records, something that - had he - we would have branded “immodest” or “exploitative,” can now be seen as shady. His answers are immaterial; in our new vernacular, questions are not seen as “spin,” but answers, by definition, are, and they in turn can be questioned.
Kerry has acted, but lo! it is too late. Our public now knows simply that there are “questions,” just as there are “questions” about our man’s service, the radio crackles with speculations and allegations, and thus the field has been rendered level and the threat neutralized.
I have seen this, and it is good.
And still, there were those who grumbled. You will pay the price for your lack of vision, and I ask that you report to me and confess rather than compelling me to seek you out. Rest assured that while I will not be merciful, neither will I waste resources as we move upon the land. For despite the intolerable doubts and murmurings, the work has been done. I am pleased.
Have a nice day.
-Karl

1Wasn’t that an old trick of LBJ’s? Something about starting a rumor about an opponent’s close relationship with barnyard animals…told he couldn’t do that if it wasn’t true, Johnson said he didn’t care if it was true or not — just wanted the opponent to have to stand up in public and deny it……
the more things change, etc.

3Hey. Great blog! Sorry to throw this on here but I couldn’t find any contact info.
I just wanted to alert you to a freshly-minted liberal media site you might enjoy/link to called The Raw Story, http://www.rawstory.com, which culls and composes progressive news, arts and business reporting from around the world. Similar to Buzzflash, but with a much more user-friendly design and updated far more frequently. But what we say doesn?t matter — check us out and decide for yourself.

4Ask for Kerry’s medical records. Just like getting a TX FBI Agent to ask for the Democratic candidates donor list so that suspicion is cast based on “story of the day” news coverage and Rove’ candidate can get some breathing room (See “Bush’s Brain” re the railroading of Hightower). It doesn’t matter what’s found, just asking gets the press involved and the target off his boy’s back for just a bit - a CLASSIC Rove move.

5Kerry’s just posted his military record at:
http://www.johnkerry.com/about/military_records.html
Among the shocking revelations:
1) Spent a year of primary school in Switzerland, raising the specter of possible brainwashing by neutrality-loving chocolate monkeys.
2) Requested duty in Vietnam, then requested transfer stateside after being wounded three times. Waffler!
3) Gave documented proof of having received three purple hearts, Bronze Star, Silver Star. Conclusion: he’s accident-prone.

6Excellent work Adam.
Once again I had the same thoughts when I heard the news, but would never have been able to make a piece this poignant or funny!
As always, this too falls under Murray’s Mantra.
Republicans are shameless, -Yup once again.
Democrats are gutless, -Haven’t heard a howl yet.
Americans are idiots. -That’s what the Republicans are counting on.

8Murray -
I like your mantra. It goes well along with mine:
A person is smart,
People are stupid.
I’m sure it’s not mine originally, but I have no recollection where it’s from.

9Since Rove is Texan, howzabout this saying, popular in Oklahoma truck stop restrooms:
Here I sit,
My ass-cheeks a-flexin’,
Givin’ birth,
To a Republican Texan.

10went to Raw Story, follwed the link to the story on “Kerry has 20 kills” — a commendation/assessment of his duty in VN, including an “unofficial” 20 enemy dead.
but the best part? the advert at the top of the page for thousands of smiley faces.

11if we’re so smart to identify rove’s moves, then why aren’t we smart enough to help the “people” understand his dirty tricks?

12you pose a problem worthy of deconstruction by derrida. let no one say that the bush team is done, for, despite their obvious hatred of the french, they have realized the old secret: simply imply something contrary to public knowledge, (i.e. “john kerry is not a war criminal”) and then the public will begin to question why, if the statement is true, what is brought up at all?
N’importe quoi!

14Found this yesterday while looking at an old National Geographic article on insects with my son:
“The Rove Beetle
As peripatetic as their name suggests, members of this family can be found among leaf litter, under rocks, and in the mud along the waterways. Many prey aggressively on other insects”
Perhaps someone is just fulfilling his biological destiny?

16it would be nice if a biologist found a leech that had mutated in the waste water of a coal foundry and named it “george w.”
