In the next week, America has a couple of chances to see me performing live and in person. This is a unique opportunity for our nation, and it shouldn’t be squandered.
First off, this Thursday, we’ll be taping “Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me” at the Bank One Auditorium in Chicago. Come on down to get a good look at us and see for yourself why we’re a radio show.
After that, it’s off to Los Angeles. On Tuesday, April 27th, I’ll be on the Comedy Central Stage, presenting “Irwin Smalls Presents.” The show is sort of a live pilot for my sketch comedy concern, “The Irwin Smalls Trio.” You can read the description at the above-linked site, but suffice to say we harness cutting edge “video” technology to bring you an unprecedented comedic experience. [Plus, there’s a special appearance by a certain “Wait Wait” panelist whose name rhymes with “Faux Knockah.”] [Which, by the way, is how they refer to a silicone implant in the Boston area.]
The LA show is FREE, but as with the Chicago appearance I’d recommend making a reservation. [I’d also strongly recommend buying me a lot of bourbons, signing me to lucrative development deals, and picking my East Coast, driver’s license-less butt up at LAX on Friday morning. But that’s just me…]
During this period, Fanatical Apathy will still appear at its more-or-less regularly scheduled times. This probably wouldn’t have been possible a few months ago, but now I’m told that this “internet” phenomenon has spread to the point where it is available in most of the 48 contiguous states. Progress…

1So where were you 2 weeks ago when I WAS in Chicago?
And how come you’re not in the Washington WWDTM broadcast, where I COULD pick you up, take you to the show, treat you and your pals to dinner and all the fine wine and liquor you could ingest, with free gifts and gorgeous blon(as long as you’re not coming I can make this sound as good as I want).
Keep me informed when you’re in the Balto-Wash area.

4You’re never in Philadelphia, for which I suppose you should be commended.

5People in the city always forget that there’s a whole state up and slightly to the left of them, of which they are officially residents. Why don’t you come to Syracuse sometime?

6Hey, historyenne, WWDTM *is* coming to Syracuse (Mulroy Civic Center at the Oncenter) in the near future. Some Thursday night, but I don’t know which; I threw out the brochure because that’s the night of my boyfriend’s weekly gig, and I’m too big a baby to drive the 60 miles myself, esp on a school night.
I don’t know if you’re scheduled for that show, Adam, but if so, you’re welcome to do the 60 mile drive and visit us in Ithaca. We’ve got plenty o’ bourbon on hand, and other delights…

7The only upcoming show that I KNOW I’m in is this week’s. Washington seems to be a no-go for me.
Future shows? Who can tell? I suppose you can email the Powers That Be, but I’m not sure that’ll have much effect on their decision making, which is inscrutable in its methods, balanced in its implementation, and unfailingly and terribly just.
In other words, I get at least 3/8ths of the live show bookings. If you count the silly panelist caricatures on the web site, you’ll see that this is indeed the Fraction of Justice.
That said, feel free to email ‘em in an attempt to influence which shows I get sent to. That’s fine by me; I’m flexible.

8On live WWDTM, I can report the following of interest to those of us the left coast:
Thursday, November 18, Asilomar Conference Grounds, Pacific Grove, CA, in association with KAZU
Adam, the California Central Coast is a lovely place at that time of the year!
Sometime in the 2004-2005 season of Cal Performances (from today’s SF Chronicle):
‘NPR’s popular news quiz show WWDTM which will be recorded with the audience at Zellerbach Hall’
Since I’m equidistant between the two, Adam, I’ll check the bourbon supply! Oh, and if you can remember the 2001 Fall WWDTM Fundraiser, I was on that show, recorded right after Labor Day 2001 and then due to circumstances beyond our control wasn’t run until later in October. Don’t know if you keep copies of the shows, but if you want one with you, Charlie, and Sue playing, and featuring the fellow who is the voice of Homer Simpson, let me know!
