A very busy day here in Felbersburgh. If you need a laugh, check out Rep. Waxman’s “Iraq on the Record” report. A grim laugh, certainly, but…
Nah, actually not a laugh at all. I should’ve said, “If you need an excuse to dash up to your rooftop and howl despondently over the morass of lies and distortions that has befouled our great democracy…” But I don’t have a rooftop, and my neighborhood isn’t zoned for Despondent Howling, so laughter was the only response available to me.
A quick personal tidbit for you, dear readers: This afternoon I taped a piece for This American Life. It was a completely great experience, and it’ll air on next week’s (not this week’s) episode. I’ll keep you posted about it, but I’ll let on that the piece was lifted from a couple of entries on this very site…
Enough! Duty calls. Go read the Waxman report, and remember to bring throat lozenges.

1All I gotta add is:
(All thanks to the mighty BusyBusyBusy.com! This haiku should win a Koufax award next year.)

3No howling for me.
I’ll just be sitting in a dark corner, Medoc in hand and weeping quietly.
A country is a terrible thing to waist.

4This is what I don’t understand: Why do I have to get this news from Adam’s blog? Why isn’t this front page above the fold in the Times and the Post? Why isn’t this the lead-off on the Nightly News?
Instead of howling, let’s all go to the rooftops and read the article out loud. Very loud.

5Speaking of radio gigs, Adam’s WWDTM co-panelist Sue Ellicott is going to co-host the morning show “Uprising” on the new, drug-free liberal talk radio network, Air America. Air America will emphasize satire to entertain listeners while delivering a progressive message.
So where is Adam? He said about a year ago that he had sent them an email and that he had a couple radio ideas. How does Ms. British Ex-Pat get on Air America before he does?

6Thirty pages, and not a single bit of evidence to suggest that Bush is fooling around on Laura. Seems to me like he’s home free.

7Thank you for the “heads up” on your impending crossing of paths with “This American Life”, Adam.
The result will be a coincidence of two of my favorite things.
I look forward to it.

8Oh, great, another Saturday with no lunch break. Noon until two stuck at the keyboard pretending to work for my clients.

9You got that right Bob. Commit our country to an unjustified war based on false and misleading statements and you stand a good chance of getting reelected.
But get a BJ from an intern, and you get impeached. Makes me wonder if our famous “American Values” are really worth exporting.

10I read as long as I could before my heart started to hurt. I do like that Rep. Waxman’s site let’s you search the database (Bush; Nuclear; bin Laden) for specific misleading statements. It could be a game: pick three paramaters and see how many lies you get!

11Hi there, yeah, long time listener, first time caller…
I wanna be on Air America! I’ve got two decades of radio hosting (it’s 9:38…38 past 9). I’m liberal. I’m smart. I can’t do morning shows cuz I can’t dumb down enough. Adam, let’s co-host a show!
Looking forward to your TAL piece, NEXT week.

13I prefer to howl along with my dogs. Too bad they can’t read. Thus, they won’t be howling. (Or, maybe they have figured out the path to true enlightenment.)

14I’m particularly fond of Figure 1 on page 5, captioned, “Number of Misleading Statements Made Each Month, March 2002 - January 2004.” It would be great if this became a regular feature on the front page of USA Today, perhaps with the title, “We’re Falling For More and More Bullsh**.”
