I believe that the strategy has gone from "Shock and Awe" to "Shuck and Jive". Besides, we won the war, why sweat the details? Maybe Iran or Syria has those WMDs. We should go look, who's going to stop us.

I've been asking the same question in a slightly different (and more scary) format.

Let's assume that the intelligence WAS accurate. Iraq DID have WMD. So, the US and the allies (don't forget the allies) went to war to disarm Iraq AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE WEAPONS DID NOT FALL IN TO UNFRIENDLY HANDS.

If the "good guys" do not find the Weapons, it does not mean that the weapons were not there. It could mean that the "bad guys" got to them first.

How well will we all sleep at night until those weapons are found?

Good points all, Adam.

The latest on this--we're running a radio spot in Iraq telling Iraqis there's a
reward for info leading to the capture of chemical or biological weapons. Which
makes me even more cynical about all those pictures Colin Powell had with lines
and circles and a paragraph on the back describing each one...

The oft-repeated cycle of "WE FOUND THE WEAPONS," "oh, never mind, I guess
those weren't the weapons" is just increasingly lame. It's turning into a variation
on that old tale of the boy who cried Wolfowitz.

Keep up the good work, and watch those yurt poles.

Adam, the New Yorker has apparently switched content on you. The link to the FACT column now goes to an Elizabeth Koelbert column about Albany politics.

I'm grateful to the New Yorker for finally putting some content up, but they are obviously still trying to get the hang of it; alternatively, they are as obsessively secretive about what material they release as the current Administration is.

Maybe they hid them underground. Yeah, that's it! I guess we'd have to start drilling! Oh, but looky all that thick oil in the way.
