It seems that Neal Pollack’s “Make Fun of the Cheneys Day” has been a smashing success, with dozens of web satirists rushing in to defend the honor and increasingly-alienable rights of the wonderful whitehouse.org.
Neal’s own offering is a thoroughly evil celebration of the Right to Ridicule, and as such I would caution you not to click on that link if there are children in the room. Or in the building. Or in the state.
Fanatical Apathy supports this noble cause, but some of the groundless and unkind attacks against the Cheneys don’t do any of us any good. Far be it for me to critique the work of other satirists, but I’ve always felt that characterizations should always be based on firm, reliable evidence, not spurious allegations and gleefully sophomoric degradations. Remember, my friends, just because we can does not mean that we should. I hope that the less-responsible of you out there pause now and take a moment to think about what you’ve done and ask yourselves whether it was really necessary to besmirch our leadership in that particular manner, especially while we’re at war.
Finally, I’d like to commend the Cheneys for taking it all in such high good humor. Being a good sport is the best revenge, right?

1Wow, I’m really glad your reporter was able to capture those soundbites. I think the NYT deserves to be told!
